Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Woodpecker Bay Bach is a rustic, cosy, New Zealand bach. If you want to escape the rat race... this is the place for you! Woodpecker Bay Bach is often fully booked - if your dates are not available - be sure to see my other oceanfront properties... Waihaha Bach, Te Tutu Bach, Little Blue, Bach 51 and Waituhi at Whitehorse Bay.

The space
The location right next to the crashing ocean is a breathtaking feature of this property. The bach is rustic and quirky. Filled with lots of treasures from a bygone era... think 'simple family holiday from 70 years ago' and you're getting close. Wifi, Netflix, and Bluetooth speakers provide some modern conveniences.
A bach (pronounced 'batch') is a small, often very modest holiday home or beach house. Baches are an iconic part of New Zealand's history and culture from mid 20th century.

HELP SAVE THE PENGUINS - A portion of every booking from our six West Coast baches is donated to the West Coast Penguin Trust. $13,686.00 has been donated so far (as of Dec 2025). The penguins thank you!

Guest access
Guests have total access to the whole property.

Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE: The flush toilet is located outside down a short garden path.
Water supply is rainwater collected the from the roof to a small tank, this is topped up with water drawn from a local waterfall - You may wish to bring bottled water for drinking... though I always just drink water straight from the tap. Note that at times the water can appear slightly tea coloured from the natural tannins is the water.
Bring all your food!... the nearest shops are 30 minutes away in Westport.

Where you’ll be

Punakaiki, West Coast, New Zealand

The highlight of this area is its remoteness and untouched wilderness areas. There are great hiking trails in the area including in Paparoa National Park and at the famous Punakaiki Pancake Rocks. Wildlife on the coast directly below the bach include seals and many seabirds and occasionally penguins, dolphins are often spotted swimming past. Kayaking up the Pororari River is beautiful, easy and highly recommended! Kayaks can be hired at the Pororari bridge just north of the Pancake Rocks. See my 'guidebook' on this listing for other things to do, There are also brochures and other suggestions at the bach once you arrive.

My work: Property Manager
Kia ora, I’m Daniel - I live in Auckland with my partner Iván. I am a commercial property manager for Auckland City, a job I love - but my real passion is our beach baches. It's a pleasure to share these special places with guests from NZ and all corners of the world. For a true Kiwi experience, be sure to check out all six of our West Coast baches. If you're passing through Auckland, stay with us in Pt Chev... Everyone is welcome!
